After touring to promote their album, the group recorded their Amsterdam live concert that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. A new studio album followed shortly after, and the group embarked on an extensive world tour to promote the album. In this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started looking through old demo tapes and tapes to make a new album featuring songs that had never been recorded before. The album was released in 2001 as a double album called Then and Now. It was the first album in the band's history not to include one single track with the word "A" in the title, and it also contained one previously unreleased track, "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity.
