Replacement Handles For Windows
Window handles are one of the most used parts of double-glazed windows. As time passes, they could become rusted or worn out.
You will have to know your current handle's spindle length as well as its fixings before you replace it. The best method to do this is by looking at the base of your previous handle.
Handle
Over time, uPVC window handles and locks can become damaged due to wear and tear, or even deliberate damage. This can mean that the lock or handle becomes difficult to open or close, or that it isn't locked in any way. It could be tempting to replace your entire window unit if this occurs, but it's not always required. In many cases an upgrade to the handle or lock is enough.
The espagnolette design is the most popular uPVC window handle. The handle is equipped with an outer spindle that extends from the
door handle replacements. It is inserted into a gearbox, which controls the multipoint locking mechanism inside the window. We stock a variety of locks and

It is an ideal idea, when replacing the handle of a uPVC handle, to use screw covers to protect the screws from rust and ensure they remain secure. You can also make use of a spacer, washer or another sealant to make a tighter fit. Having a screw cap in place will also stop debris and water from getting into the handle and causing damage.
After the handle is removed from the window it's an ideal idea to scrub the spindle of the new handle and also the threaded part of the bolt. This will ensure that the handle is fitted and functions properly and will also prevent dirt from entering the multipoint lock.

Hinges
If your windows are starting to open and close with a visible gap, it can be caused by the hinges not being in line with the frame. It is usually a simple fix that can be resolved with a set of replacement hinges. These hinges are designed to fully open in a crisis and have an easy-cleaning position. We also carry hinges with restricted egress that are designed to restrict the opening angle of the window to 100mm maximum perfect for families with children.
Squeaky hinges may be a sign that the hinges require to be replaced. This is usually caused by metal hitting metal. A small amount of lubricant might help, but should the noise continue to be heard, it is likely that the hinges need to be replaced.
Window plumbs help avoid unnecessary binding, this means that the operating sash of the window is line with the frame, ensuring that it can be closed and opened properly. A window that is not plumb could begin to open and close with difficulty or may be distorted over time, creating problems for the seal and the appearance of the window.
When buying replacement upvc window hinges, you should be aware that they are available in imperial or sizes in metric. The metric sizes tend to be more precise, however this isn't really noticeable when they are installed. The first corner holes on the track are standard, but the others may vary depending on the hardware that was originally used. We suggest that you take measurements of the hole spacings on your frame prior to purchasing any hinges made of upvc in order to ensure they are the correct dimensions.
Crank
Over time, wear and tear can cause damage to the window handle the lock, crank mechanism or even the handle. This could make it difficult to open and close your windows. If you're not able to lock your window or the multipoint lock is damaged it could be worth looking into replacing this component of the hardware, too.
It's easy to replace the window crank with minimum effort. However, it is essential to purchase the right size replacement. Ensure that the replacement has the same in height as the previous one and can be measured by measuring the distance between the guide for the crank arm bushing and the notch on the track across the bottom of the window frame. You can also measure the length of your spindle on your current handle to determine the size of the replacement.
The type of handle that is fitted to your window will determine the type of crank mechanism that is required for your casement and awning windows. Espag handles have a brain spindle on the back that is fixed to the frame of the window and is the motor that drives the mechanism. Cockspur handles are fitted with pegs which are fixed into their position by three or four screws that are inserted in the sash and the frame.
Once you've found the correct replacement, it's easy to install. Remove any screws that attach to the trim from the casement cover and carefully lift the cover to expose the insides of the window operator (Photo 1). Remove any rusted trim screws and then check the operating lever with the old to ensure they match. Then, screw the new lever to the window frame, replacing any screws that are rusted or bent, and place the casement cover over the mechanism.
