There are a myriad of reasons why lever door handles slide. The most common cause is that the fixings aren't tight which causes the lever bearing to bind against the door. It could also be because the levers are not being operated in a straight line and this is causing the latch mechanism and preventing it from fully springing back into action.
The most common reason for a sprung lever not working correctly is the spring not being in the correct position on the backplate. The easiest way to test this is to turn the handle to see if it returns to its horizontal position.
It is crucial to repair any door handles that are damaged as soon as you can. This could lead to excessive wear on the screws, and the handle might fall off the base plate. It is also a good idea to tighten all screws that are loose on a regular basis in order to stop them from loosening.
