Find the battery's hatch, and then open it with the flathead, a coin, or a similar tool. Then, carefully remove the battery from its socket by lifting up on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to shield the clips and electronic contact surfaces.
Once the battery has been removed, place the new one in its socket. Ensure that the positive side of the battery is facing upwards, and that all clips are in place. Slide the cover downwards towards the key-ring section until it is loose and is able to slide off. Then, remove the cover to reveal the hidden key blade. Insert the blade of a screwdriver, or prybar tool into the slot and then gently pull the rear of the fob open. Once you have opened the fob, you can locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Place a new battery in its spot and put the fob back together.
Note: Older Volvos use a different type of battery that is called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 10ths of a millimeter smaller than a CR2032 battery, which means you must be cautious about the placement of the replacement.
