Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight spaces.

For a smooth ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres. Look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. They are susceptible, however, to punctures. Be prepared with a repair set.

Frame made of sturdy material

New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, the symbol of the decade that had more money than common sense, are in a steep decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider variety of terrain, while also looking elegant and easy to push.

The basic rule is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it'll be for your buggy to cope with bumpy ground and rough pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back also makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and 3 wheel stroller lightweight year old and found it was able to withstand cobbles, grass, rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. She said that it felt sturdy to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasional pumping) offer built-in suspension that was very comfortable for my children.

The size and shape of the seat is a further factor to think about. You will want it to be big enough for your child's comfort and you will also want it to be able to recline so that they can lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others allow the parent to be facing one.

A great option for those who want to tackle off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is ideal for a single child as early as birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth to age 4 and includes a bumper and raincover, a new 5-point harness, and a huge padded seat. The storage options are great too, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets on the hood, and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with larger diameter

Larger wheels give your buggy greater stability when driving over rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for buggies that are off-road. They also help you navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability at the speed at which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you bump against the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.

Many 3 wheel pushchairs feature air-filled tyres. This means they are able to handle different terrains and are far more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures and you'll need to have a repair kit, spare inner tube, and pump on hand.

Some of our favourite 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which, she says "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles", and can easily move up and down kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that according to her "smoothes out bumps with great efficiency".

The downside of having larger wheels is that they make some buggies quite wide and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This is a problem especially if you're using it to a jogger or you need to to get through narrow doorways when out and about. The majority of models come with compact folding options, which allow you to remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to manoeuvre

One of the primary benefits of a three-wheel buggy is that it can be much easier to maneuver, especially with a child in tow. The way in which they are built means that the front wheels rotate at a quick pace and are incredibly easy to manoeuvre which makes them perfect for difficult terrains such as parks, cobbles, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her toddler and newborn and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough terrain, with the swivel front wheel particularly useful. I was also awed by how well it dealt with kerbs, especially when using the hand-operated brake. I found it extremely stable when going downhill or over uneven ground."

The only drawback to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel twin stroller-wheel buggy may make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind when your home is a city. If this is an issue, a 4-wheel buggy might be better for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars protect your child from bumps and scrapes when out and out and about. These bumper bars are easy to install, and will make your child feel secure and safe while out and about.

Created to match the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar features a soft and padded surface that offers a comfortable place for your child to hold to while walking. The robust construction and durable design will ensure that your child is able to enjoy strolling through the city without fear of falling or leaning towards the side.

The sling is stowed inside the frame it is not positioned on top like the seat that is modular. This provides a lower centre of gravity for your infant at the ideal height, and also offers an excellent weight distribution, making it easier to push over curbs (it is much easier to push a stroller up and down than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it's excellent on cobbles and grass. It's also a good option for running with its air-filled tyres and locking swivel wheels.

This bumper bar is sure to make heads turn wherever it's utilized. It has a classy and stylish design. Available in a range of finishes and colors and designs, it can be tailored to match your style. It features a simple, quick-release mechanism that makes it easy to install and remove the bumper bar as necessary. Furthermore the bar is easy to clean and is made of durable materials that are simple to wipe down. This makes it an excellent choice for families who want an attractive and secure accessory for their stroller.

Comfort

A 3-wheel buggy offers the highest level of maneuverability and performance when you go off road. This style of buggy is easy to steer and turn on a dime with its perfect geometry engineering, as well as weight distribution.

The Sport's clever design places the sling seat made of fabric inside the frame, rather than over it like modular seats. This means it has a lower center of gravity and makes it more comfortable to push, has a lighter curb-pop (you will not need to put in as much effort to lift the buggy's nose over the curb) and also provides better balance and stability. With the 16" rear wheels, lockable front wheel, and tyres that are air-filled, you can enjoy an easier, more comfortable jogging.

The only all-terrain stroller in our collection with a parent-facing seat which can also accommodate a car seat or carrycot, you are able to make sure your family is prepared for every adventure beginning from the first day and for years to come!

And that's not the only reason to love this buggy - our MFM reviewer Kath was impressed by how spacious it is as well. There's a large, easily accessible basket that's huge for a buggy this small, plus there's a handy zipped pouch at the rear of the seat and two smaller mesh pockets under the hood to keep your keys and phone.
