The band's third album, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet format of previous albums. It was a stronger, more constant effort with a harder edge than Hydra. Its more punk-rock sound was indicative of the maturation of group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's greater ability on the drums and an improved, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams.
