Recycled Items
Many of the products we use on a daily basis such as paper, glass, aluminium and plastics, can be recycled. This helps to reduce the amount of waste that we produce and also saves on energy costs.
It is important to know what items can and cannot be recycled prior to placing them in your recycling bin. This will prevent you from contamination of recyclables, making it harder for recyclers to sort them. Using this information will help you recycle more often, and it will also help you make better choices when buying new items.
Paper, cardboard and paperboard are recyclable, as are as glass bottles and jars (as as they're clean) and aluminum cans. Metals such as tin, aluminum, steel and many more metals can be recycled. Plastics like soda bottles, ice cream containers cans, and plastic bags are recyclable. Textiles like clothing and shoes are recyclable but they're not as common as other items.
Certain items you should not put in your recycling bin include windows glass panes, and wire hangers. These are generally not accepted in recycling programs that are available at the curb, so they should be brought to an appropriate household hazardous waste collection facility or an event. You should also not recycle paint, construction materials or fertilizers and pesticides in their containers as they can be dangerous to the environment and the health of humans.
