The Band Toto Asia
Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was an ode to the classic sextet structure and an even more consistent and powerful album with a sharper edge. The more experimental sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the maturation in the group. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased virtuosity was reflected by the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. Keyboardist David Paich's work also was more refined, sharper, and less derivative than on previous performances.
After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live concert in Amsterdam that was released as a set of two CDs called Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album was released just a few months later and the group embarked on an extensive world tour to promote it. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
