The system is dual-laser LiDAR -- similar to what you'd find in self-driving cars and is able to scan an area of up to 32 feet by 270 degrees. This results in more precise mapping, quicker response times, and better cleaning accuracy.
It also has a rotating mopping pad constructed of chenille fabric, which makes it much easier to scrub difficult areas unlike traditional mops. In my testing the X2 Omni took just over a minute to clean its pad and begin work, and I noticed that it was much more accurate than previous models that were able to follow a grid-like path around rooms. It was able to navigate around corners and edges of my rooms and also make "Zambani patterns" both in and out of the middle of the room. It also returned to its OMNI station frequently to empty the trash bin and wash the mop with hot water prior to starting another task of cleaning.
Like other Ecovacs products, the X2 Omni is a breeze to set up and start using. Place the dock in its place, plug it in and pair it with your WiFi network at home. It takes just about a minute. You can then open the app to start your first cleaning project. I was able to modify my floor plan within 15 minutes. This included creating limited areas for sweeping and mopping as well as rearranging the positioning of furniture on the wall, and more. The X2 Omni was impressive in my tests. This budget-friendly robot from a renowned brand is the cheapest we've ever tested and offers incredible value for money. Its navigation system is basic and uses a super-basic random pathing algorithm that isn't equipped with room mapping capabilities, which makes it less efficient than other models on this list. It's still able to navigate under furniture and into the corners. Its mopping mode performed well in our tests and picked up hairs that were straying and other debris.
