These hinges can be fitted to traditional side-hung frames made from aluminum or uPVC. They are equipped with an easy friction screw that can alter the amount of resistance that is generated. This makes opening the windows easier and reduces the chances of closing the window accidentally during strong winds. It is important to note that the measurement is taken from the component that attaches to the frame and not the sash. The actual hinge length may be longer or shorter depending on the manufacturer of your old windows. For a quick way to determine the radius of your hinge, lay it flat and line up the quarter and dime in two corners. If the quarter fits better than the corner, then it should be round to 5/8 inches.
