If you're looking to enjoy the convenience of a robotic vacuum without having to make many sacrifices in terms of performance, then this Neato is a great choice. The D4 offers solid navigation and mapping features as well as smart home integration and an easy-to-use app with an affordable price that won't cost you a fortune.
To set up this bot, you have to connect it to its base and connect it to your Wi-Fi network at home. Once that's done then the Neato app walks you through the initial configuration (linking to Wi-Fi, naming the D4 and so on.). After it's fully charged you can begin a cleaning cycle.
Once the D4 is up and running, the app allows you to create a schedule automatically or manually at any point. You can also control it using your voice using Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you have an Apple Watch you can start cleaning by tapping your wrist.
In our lab tests this model was able to clean well on both hard and carpeted flooring It picked up 91.3% of debris combined in serpentine pathways. It's not as efficient at cleaning edges and corners as higher-end models. The D4's side sensors keep it approximately 1.5 inches from walls. Also, it doesn't have the side-sweeping brush found on all, if not the
cheapest lidar robot vacuum robotic cleaners. Additionally, its elevated turret isn't able to fit under low-clearance furniture. It does support virtual No-Go Lines, so you can draw lines on your floor plan to tell the D4 not to move there. The battery life of 75 minutes is also average. But that's a small trade-off for the convenience this model provides.
2. iRobot Roomba 980
The Roomba 980 from iRobot is the top-of-the-line robot in the lineup of the company, promising premium performance and a host of connected features. The 980 is priced at $899/PS899 but it's typically cheaper if you shop online (John Lewis or Amazon US are both excellent places to begin).
The 980 is the highest-tech of all our top picks. It comes with a HEPA filter that is able to capture dust particles and allergens to improve air quality inside your home. It also supports a wide variety of floor surfaces including tile and hardwood.
The 980's top mounted camera, sensor SLAM, and ability to navigate in tight spaces like hallways and corners are among its most notable features. iRobot calls this technology iAdapt 2.0 and it makes use of snapshots taken by the camera to create an internal map. This helps the 980 keep track of the exact location, meaning that it doesn't waste time cleaning areas that have already been covered.
iRobot has also added new features that are smart, such as the ability to define a certain part of your home as off-limits for the 980. This isn't the most advanced or biggest that we tested, but it worked and is a welcomed addition. The 980 is controlled via voice commands via Alexa or Google Assistant. The robot may take several minutes to send a request.
The Roomba can return to its base station automatically when it's done cleaning, ensuring that it is always ready for the next adventure. This feature is only available on the 980, and it's a nice addition that makes the expensive machine more practical to own.
3. iRobot Roomba 985
iRobot Roomba is designed to make your floors cleaner, more beautiful and more efficient with its powerful cleaning system, smart navigation and a smart integration with other iRobot devices. Its exclusive dirt detection system warns you of areas that require extra attention, and it comes with smart sensors to keep it away from steps and other potentially dangerous obstacles. It can also automatically recharge and keep cleaning until the task is completed. Its advanced mapping technology and vSLAM allow it to travel across the entire floor of your home. It tracks which rooms remain to be cleaned and the location it was.
Its low profile makes it easier to reach under furniture and other objects where dust, pet hair, and dirt often hide. Unlike many robot vacuums, it also has the ability to sweep dirt out of corners and along edges. It's also simple to plan cleaning sessions from any location with the iRobot app or by using your voice with Alexa and Google Assistant.

The latest model from iRobot has the highest obstacle-avoiding ability of any Roomba we've tested because of its front-facing camera and laser sensor. This makes it able to avoid pet feces and wires much better than other robotic vacuums that we've tested, including the EcovacsN8Pro, Roborock S6MaxV, and others.
It is also the most powerful vacuum. It is able to take out the dirt that has deeper particles or more pet hairs unlike other mid-range models, such as the Roomba 960. This is because the cleaner has wider brushes that rotate counter-clockwise and an engine with more suction power.
The Roomba 995 is also iRobot's most affordable vacuum that has recharge and resume features, but it doesn't come with the auto-empty system that both the I6+ and I7 offer. It lacks iAdapt navigation 2.0 and the camera used by the I7 to track objects and avoid obstructions. It can't access features like in-app containment or save maps.
Another drawback is that the iRobot-995 doesn't have mopping capabilities. Although this might not be an issue for those who want a top-notch vacuum, it's a big disadvantage for anyone looking to purchase the hybrid
lidar robot vacuum cleaner.
The Combo J7+ is another iRobot that is equipped with automatic empty. It can vacuum and mop. It has the same navigation capabilities as the I6+ and I7 but doesn't have iAdapt 2.0 and a camera. This means that it isn't able to save maps, and it does not come with the in-app containment features that the I7 and S9 provide. The Combo J7+ does, however, have improved automation through iRobot Genius and can learn your habits of cleaning to schedule cleanings automatically. It also has a larger dust bin than the I6+ and I7 which can hold 2.5 Liters of debris which is more than enough to last 60 days.
Roomba 960 by iRobot
A cheaper alternative to the 980, the 960 delivers similar performance, but in a smaller. It is great for carpeted floors and bare floors, picking up dirt and food crumbs. It's also excellent at navigating and avoiding obstructions. It is capable of removing dirt embedded in the soil.
This robot makes use of iAdapt 2.0 navigation to keep track of its position, which allows it to navigate the room efficiently and avoid getting stuck. It can see the floor as well as the objects and obstacles by using SLAM and a top-mounted camera. It can even fit under tables and couches because of its low-profile. And it's able to return to its dock to recharge when necessary.
The 960's navigation, despite lacking some advanced features such as map-saving and selective cleaning of rooms, is superior to the majority of robots. It also has a bigger dust bin than the 690.
The iRobot Home app for iOS or Android allows you to control the 960. It comes with a range of automation features, including the ability to create cleaning preferences, a schedule, trigger spot cleanings and monitor the battery status. You can monitor the vacuum's location, and receive notifications if its dirt container is full. The 960 is also compatible with voice commands using Alexa and Google Assistant. The iRobot Roomba 960 makes a great choice for most homes. It's well-built, has lower recurring costs and comes with a larger dirt compartment, and is faster than the less expensive RoboVac 11. If you're looking for a less expensive option that offers similar performance on carpets and floors look into the Neato Botvac D7.
