Then, locate the battery's hatch and open it using a flathead, a coin, or any other similar tool. Next, carefully pry the battery from its socket by lifting it up on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to shield the electronic contact surfaces.
Place the new battery in the socket after the old one was removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it's seated in all of the clips. Then, slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop until it loosens and then slides off. Then, lift the cover and reveal the mechanical key blade hidden inside. Inject the blade of a screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently open the back of the fob that holds the key. Once the fob is opened you can locate the CR2032 3V battery and remove it. Place a new battery in its spot and join the fob.
Note: Older Volvos use a different type of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have a thickness of 7 tenths one millimeter less than CR2032 which means you'll need to be extra cautious when replacing your battery.
